CARBIOW intensifies liaison with European institutions and projects through attendance at high-level stakeholder events

With one year to go, the CARBIOW project is intensifying liaison with European organisations and projects by attending high-level stakeholder events. In the last six months, CARBIOW partners have represented the project at major meetings focused on biocircularity and the circular economy, at a cluster meeting on ‘Biomethane for marine and aviation fuels’, and at a Horizon Europe programme conference.

Through poster presentations and round table discussions, they presented what CARBIOW is and the innovative technologies it offers, as well as its added value in contributing to the decarbonisation of air and maritime transport in Europe.

CINEA’s cluster meeting in Brussels

The cluster meeting on ‘Aviation/Maritime Fuels Biomethane’ organised by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) took place in Brussels (Belgium) on 15 October.

The meeting brought together the beneficiaries of the 36 ongoing Horizon Europe projects focused on the development of renewable fuels in the transport sector, including Research and Innovation Actions (RIA), Innovation Actions (IA) and Coordination and Support Actions (CSA).

CARBIOW project was represented by our coordinator, Beatriz Aberasturi Serrano, from TECNALIA, who in addition to attending the event, presented a poster on the project during the parallel event dedicated to aviation fuels.

Attending these kinds of events is crucial, as they provide updated information on the main policy developments of the European Commission on R&I in the field of aviation/maritime fuels, create synergies between projects and plan joint communication and/or dissemination activities.

Horizon Europe conference in Spain

On 28 November, the CARBIOW project joined the 12th Conference of the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in Spain Horizon Europe in Oviedo (Northern Spain).

The Conference, organised by the CDTI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU), the European Commission, the City Council of Oviedo and Sekuens, aimed to analyse the first years of operation of Horizon Europe and also to review the excellent results of the participation of our country in order to draw conclusions that allow Spanish entities to improve their participation strategies and positioning in Europe.

The Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Juan Cruz Cigudosa, chaired the opening ceremony, which was also attended by Leticia González, Councillor for Economy, Digital Transformation and Social Policies of the City Council of Oviedo and Borja Sánchez García, Minister for Science, Business, Training and Employment of the Government of the Principality of Asturias. The conclusions and closing were given by Teresa Riesgo, General Secretary for Innovation of the MICIU and President of the CDTI.

Several posters were approved by the organisation and exhibited, and CARBIOW was one of them. Inmaculada Abasolo, representative of our project coordinator TECNALIA Research & Innovation, attended this event. Our poster presented the objectives of the project, the technological innovation it proposes, the added value within the production of biofuels and a list of the results obtained throughout its first two years of life.

First Spanish BioCircular SUMMIT

On 11 February 2025, the CARBIOW project joined the first Spanish BioCircular SUMMIT, the benchmark meeting for the biocircularity sector in Spain, organised by the Spanish Biocircularity Technology and Innovation Platform (BIOPLAT) and Spanish Biocicularity Association (BIOCIRC).

There, in front of an audience of more than 200 professionals dedicated to different biocircular solutions, including biofuels, the CARBIOW project presented a poster with its latest advances.

Sectoral events such as BioCircular SUMMIT bring the project closer to an audience of mostly stakeholders. This audience was addressed in one of the presentations by Beatriz Aberasturi, coordinator of the CARBIOW project and Head of Bioeconomy and CO2 at TECNALIA Research & Innovation, who presented the project as an example of a success case.

Basque Circular Summit 2025

The CARBIOW project was present at the Basque Circular Summit 2025, held from 2 to 4 April in Bilbao, Spain, where our partner and project coordinator, TECNALIA, had a stand.

There, the CARBIOW videos were played continuously, bringing them closer to an audience of more than 1,300 stakeholders.

The Basque Circular Summit 2025 is a meeting forum for international and local experts in circular economy to present and discuss the main trends in the integration of sustainability in business activity. The congress also featured more than 150 speakers, representatives of the European Commission, pioneering business leaders in circularity, and other prestigious experts in the field of sustainability who, for three days, will share experiences and ideas to build a more sustainable future for the economy.
