CARBIOW, present at the Fuel Science Conference

The CARBIOW project has been present during the 11th International Conference ‘Fuel Science – From Production to Propulsion‘ organized by The Fuel Science Center and RWTH Aachen University in Aachen (Germany).

Two of our project colleagues, Svetlana Obydenkova, and Michelle Gian, both from the Sustainability of Materials group at Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM), presented the CARBIOW Project during the International Conference as an example of net carbon-negative biofuels and solved a supposedly simple question: “What does it take to go below zero?”.

As they explained, within the project, they will work with the multiple variables that come into play when waste from one new value chain is already part of another (e.g. from a fertilizer or energy chain) and how then the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) must take into account the impact of diverting that waste from one chain to another.
