CARBIOW PROJECT PUBLISHES ITS SIXTH SCIENTIFIC PAPER

Our partner, the National Institute of Chemistry of Slovenia, published our sixth scientific paper in May. This time, it was in volume 252 of the prestigious journal Renewable Energy by Elsevier, and the authors were Andrii Kostyniuk and Blaž Likozar.

Entitled ‘Dry torrefaction of biomass waste into high-energy biochar and selective formation of levoglucosenone and 1,4:3,6-dianhydro-α-D-glucopyranose’, this study systematically examined the influence of reaction conditions on the dry torrefaction process, evaluating their effects on the surface morphology and elemental composition of the resulting biochar.

«For the first time, the non-catalytic formation of value-added liquid products, such as levoglucosenone and 1,4:3,6-dianhydro-α-D-glucopyranose from wood cellulose pulp residue has been achieved using dry torrefaction under solvent-free conditions and in a nitrogen atmosphere».

This sixth article demonstrates the CARBIOW project’s commitment to innovation in the field of biofuels.
