FeyeCon is a global leader in CO₂ technology, specialising in sustainable process and product development. They strive to achieve a clean and sustainable planet by combining research and development activities with a market-driven approach. FeyeCon offers tailor-made process design and equipment at bench, pilot, and production scale.
“We have built extensive expertise across multiple sectors, including energy, renewables, biopolymers, waste valorization, and natural extracts. Currently, we are expanding our expertise in carbon capture and utilization”, explains Laurens de Haan, Junior Engineer at FeyeCon.
The role of FeyeCon at the CARBIOW project is to evaluate and optimise the process. To do so, they integrate the different steps of the CARBIOW value chain into a single process, extending from torrefaction to the upgrading of the final products. A key focus for achieving that is optimizing energy and waste heat utilization to maximize carbon conversion from biomass into biofuels.
“One of the biggest challenges in our work package is the high moisture content of organic waste. The waste must be dried before conversion to biofuels, which requires a significant amount of energy”, states Laurens de Haan.
From FeyeCon’s perspective, the main added value of the project in terms of the use of Carbon Dioxide Technologies would be the fact that CARBIOW introduces a novel carbonation process that permanently fixes CO₂ in minerals, which can be used in the cement industry. This provides a sustainable way to utilise and store CO₂. Additionally, most high-purity CO₂ used in industrial processes today originates from fossil fuels. The CARBIOW process has the potential to provide a renewable source of technical-grade CO₂, contributing to a more sustainable carbon economy
“Stakeholders are particularly interested in the project’s approach to integrating waste valorization, biofuel production, and CO₂ utilization into a single process”, Laurens de Haan concludes.
