Svåheia Eiendom AS (SEAS) is a private company owned by three municipalities in South-West Norway. It specialises in the active ownership and development of commercial real estate within the Svåheia Business Park in Eigersund. SEAS plays a key role in promoting sustainable development and circular economy practices in the region. The area features facilities for municipal waste management and has significant potential for emerging green businesses.
SEAS owns and manages commercial properties at Svaaheia in Eigersund municipality, which is located in the southern part of Rogaland County. At present, Svaaheia is a well-established industrial area with wind turbines, landfills, and a handling area for municipal waste, but our ambitions go far beyond the current scale, as the industrial park has great potential for new businesses.
SEAS leads Work Package 7 – Exploitation and Business Plan, focusing on:
- Feasibility studies for waste management and land use.
- Planning for a demonstration plant.
- Exploring renewable electricity supply for electrolysers.
- Developing strategies for biofuel handling, storage, and distribution
The key challenges include:
- Ensuring the economic feasibility and scalability of the proposed biofuel infrastructure.
- Securing reliable sources of organic waste and renewable energy.
- Navigating regulatory frameworks and stakeholder expectations.
- Integrating sustainable practices into existing industrial operations while maintaining profitability.
- Understanding the underlying sub processes and line it us as one production (test) facility
“These challenges require close collaboration with project internal partners, municipalities, industry partners, and energy providers”, explains Arild Refsland, CEO of Svåheia Eiendom AS (SEAS).
CARBIOW introduces a comprehensive and innovative approach to biofuel production and management:
- It valorizes hard-to-utilize organic waste, turning it into high-quality biofuels.
- It supports decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors like aviation, maritime, and cement through advanced technologies such as torrefaction and carbonation.
- It promotes a circular economy by integrating waste management, renewable energy, and sustainable logistics.
“This holistic model enhances energy security, reduces emissions, and creates new business opportunities bout for SEAS as a partner and for activities in the business park”, states Arild Refsland.
Stakeholders are often impressed by the breadth and ambition of the CARBIOW project. What stands out most is:
- The triple sustainability focus—economic, environmental, and social.
- The potential to transform waste into valuable resources.
- The project’s alignment with EU Green Deal goals and its contribution to regional development and job creation.
- Potential for solving climate issues for local waste productions.
- Potential for synergies with existing activities in the area.
“The vision of turning Svåheia into a hub for green innovation resonates strongly with both public and private sector audiences”, concludes Arild Refsland.
